Heinz Julen’s exhibition “Was mir lieb ist” (translated: “What is dear to me”) showcases his favourite places, where each of them holds a special emotional significance to the artist. The exhibition is essentially a continuation of the “Weiland” project where Heinz threw sculpted cubes down from the Matterhorn to let God and Nature have its influence on his artworks.

Julen starts by painting on cardboard using earth tones to resemble Nature’s true colours.

Once the creative process is complete, he manipulates the artwork by introducing a series of random formations, scratches, and small disruptions. After his interventions, he restarts the creation on his artwork to bring everything together to its final state.

Additionally, he often incorporates plastic foil layers with folds and scratches, which gives the viewer the feeling of the artists ability to capt the radiance of lights reflection.

This technique, which is based on his own creativity and inspiration, surprises both the viewer and the creator, having therefor achieved an unexpected and unique outcome. By that, it also creates a sense of wonder and a visually stunning three-dimensional representation for the observer.

This special creative approach of Heinz Julen can beautifully represent the metaphor of life’s unpredictability.

Life is full of surprises, some of which can be deeply upsetting and leave us feeling lost and confused. It can be challenging to comprehend these unexpected events and find peace in their aftermath.

In this way, “Was mir lieb ist” offers viewers a glimpse into Julen’s artistic evolution, inviting them to become part of his world and shedding some of the weight brought on by life’s experiences.
