View House (1994)

    Viewhouse

1993: Starting with some sketches together with the prerequisite measurements the building permit was aquired. The work was undertaken with the help of Heinz Julen’s Portuguese team. Work which was interrupted several times. The conformity of the structure was regularly questioned by the local council.

An ingenious system of jacks raising the roof structure by 20cm was created allowing the frame to be reduced in height. The roofing was then lowered to a level which the authorities deemed acceptable.

The interior positioning of the dividing walls was simply marked out on the floor. Improvisation was the rule, allowing complete freedom. All main rooms enjoy an uninterrupted view of the Matterhorn. Views are modified by a combination of glazed internal and external bays increasing the space and integrating surrounding countryside.
