Baracca Zermatt

    Baracca Zermatt

The famous Garstronom Simon Lutz from Basel aquired much of the furniture of the defunct “Heinz Julen into the hotel” project. He stored it away and after finding an appropriate location in Basel, he created the legendary restaurant Aqua.  Simon Lutz contacted Heinz Julen, who gave him a hand in questions of interior design and also delivered further pieces of furniture. 3 years after the opening, Simon Lutz had the idea of using the garden area in the winter in order to make a Fondüstube out of an old Postbaracce from Zermatt . He commissioned Heinz Julen to design this Baracca. Both agreed to shape the Baracca entirely in the style of Zermatt and so the name was born “Baracca Zermatt”. All furniture was designed and produced by Heinz Julen in Zermatt. Therefore  a real Baracca Zermatt Style was created by him. After the opening it was immediately clear that this idea added value to the name of Zermatt . So the two decided to create more of these Baracca Zermatt projects throughout Switzerland and abroad. They founded the Baracca Zermatt AG and took on board, as a financially strong partner, the Zermatt Bergbahnen railway. Despite the huge success of the two excisting Baracca, after the second opened at Zurich airport, unfortunately their partner Zermatt Bergbahnen lost interrest in the project – pity!
